Osteopathy
£95 (75-90min)
Osteopathy is both an art form and a comprehensive system of primary contact healthcare that focuses on the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal and other related disorders without the use of drugs or surgery.
Osteopaths, in close collaboration with the patient, seek to identify the causes of impaired health and restore the optimum functioning of the body. Osteopathy can be used as a tool for injury rehabilitation, prevention and overall maintenance of health. When combined with Pilates and postural exercises, it can help to combat some of the physical and psychological challenges that occur in modern daily life.
The consultation follows a three step process:
Assessment – At the beginning of the consultation a detailed medical case history will be taken. This information will help inform the Osteopath on the background and nature of your problem, including biological, psychological and social factors. A musculoskeletal examination will proceed this in which the osteopath will observe your posture, take your blood pressure, test reflexes and assess the integrity of your joints and muscles. This process will help the Osteopath to formulate a diagnosis which will then be discussed and explained to you in detail.
Treatment – The Osteopathic treatment will involve a diverse range of specialised hands-on techniques. These include soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, articulation, muscle-energy techniques, stretching, lymphatic effleurage, balanced ligamentous tension techniques and trigger point therapy. These are all names for Osteopathic techniques which are performed in a gentle and safe manner to help alleviate aches and pains which are felt in the body.
Management – A detailed programme will be devised which will be based on Pilates, yoga, postural exercises, strength & conditioning, lifestyle modifications and nutritional advice. This will help to maximise improvement between sessions.
